    Stucco, metal, and concrete are all elements this system deals with better than some of the other units.  If a handheld walkie-talkie can communicate from your driveway to the inside area where you would place the receiver, this unit would also work.

    The “MAPS” system will detect large metallic objects and won’t trigger movement from animals or people.  The MURS driveway alarm products will pick up any movement, but the MAPS system only detects automobiles.     The MURS-BS Kit is a long-range driveway alarm that uses analog “Multi-Use Radio Service” to transmit a signal from the long-range driveway sensor to the transceiver up to several miles.  If you live on a farm or ranch, have a large piece of property, or environmental factors such as concrete, steel, etc. are present, this product is a great solution for a long-distance driveway alarm. This MURS driveway alarm kit is available with a desktop receiver (shown below) or a hand-held portable receiver.

    Why Use the Dakota Alert MURS-BS Long Range Driveway Alarm Over Other?

    If the distance from the entrance of your driveway to the receiver is over 4,000 feet, this is just about the only product on the market that can meet these demands.  The product uses the MURS analog radio service to transmit alerts several miles away.  This is the analog frequency that common handheld walkie-talkies will use. 

    The base station that receives the message in this kit, the M538 Base Station, is a transceiver meaning it can send and receive radio communication.  As with other products in the MURS Dakota Alerts family, multiple transceivers can communicate.  Just as you can expand the system by adding more transceivers, you can also add additional transmitters like motion- and probe-based sensors.

    Dakota Alerts has produced another winner.  The MURS BS Kit features a PIR-based movement detection sensor and a plug-in transceiver speaker.  This combination provides an outstanding range of up to several miles.  This is achieved through “Multi-Use Radio Service,” the frequency the set uses to transmit.

    The transmitter detects movement through PIR technology.  Powered by batteries, it transmits a wireless signal to the base station transceiver when movement is detected.

    The transceiver and transmitter feature an antenna connected to the base with a BNC connector.  If you need additional range over the published “several” miles, you could run a coax cable and connect one end to a large antenna and the other to the base.

    Additional transceivers and/or transmitters may be used. The M538-H, a handheld transceiver, is also available.

    What’s in the Kit

    I Only Want to Detect Cars with a Drive Way Alert

    As outlined above, this kit features a motion sensor for a long-range driveway sensor. Any object moving through the detection zone will trigger the MURS driveway alarm receiver. This may be precisely what you are looking for; however, if you only want your driveway alert kit to detect metallic objects (cars & trucks) then you may want to consider the following two products:

    • MAPS-BS-KIT: this is very similar to this product except for the sensor. The MAPS kit features a magnetometer sensor that detects motion only. With a range of up to 3 miles, this may or may not better suit your needs.
    • DCPA-4K-PLUS: this is the newest addition to the Dakota driveway alert product line. This kit also features a magnet probe sensor but has the newest Dakota Alert receiver. With a range of up to 5,000 ft., it does not have the range of the MAPS-BS-KIT but has several factors you may want to consider.     The  M538-BS is a 2-way radio transceiver designed for use with the Dakota Alert MURS-based alerts.  This base station has five channels and thirty-eight subchannels for communication with other users over several miles (depending on terrain).

    You are allowed to operate this two-way base station with a license.   The M538-BS plugs into a standard wall outlet through an included transformer.

    A radio alert is sent from a Dakota Alert MURS-based transmitter.  Once the base station receives the radio signal, it chimes and displays an icon in the LCD window, letting you know a signal has been received.  The base station also comes with a “Normally ON” (NO) relay that can be used for add-on devices such as an alarm panel, door chime, strobe light, siren, and many others.

    The M538-BS also communicates with the Dakota Alert M538-HT or handheld transceiver.  This is also a two-way radio.   You can communicate two ways with the other transceivers to communicate with other users on the system.  This system has a range of several miles which gives you added flexibility and usage.

    How it Works:

    What’s in the Kit?
    The sensor is indoor rated only and is powered by a 9 Volt battery.  The sensor is comprised of two pieces one of which is magnetized.  When these contacts are separated, the sensor is triggered and signals a plug-in chime receiver.  The great thing about this product is that it uses the same receiver as the RC3253 so that you can easily expand the system by adding additional sensors and or additional receivers.

    How the Products are Powered:
    The door window sensors are battery operated – no wiring required. The range between the transmitter and receiver is 150 feet.   This range may be decreased by qualities such as metal doors, concrete, and stucco.


    Works best by a door or window that typically stays closed. It does not detect motion or other movement and is only triggered when the magnetic contacts are separated.

    Common uses of this product are over a door or window where restricted access is desired.  Some of our customers are retail stores who want to know when customers enter dressing rooms, for example.  When the shopper opens the dressing room door a gentle chime sound notifies the retail store clerk.  If you have children these are great, low-cost devices to add a layer of security to your supervision.  If a child opens an exterior door you will hear a loud, gentle sounding chime.

    When you have a deck and need marker lights, but don’t have electricity run to the specific area, use the BL705, BL735, and BL775 deck marker lights by Xodus Innovations.  These are LED-powered lights that run from dusk to dawn and use motion sensors to change the light level.  From dusk till dawn it operates in what is known as “LOW GLOW” mode which is an innovative patent by Xodus Innovations.  This is a low-powered glow emitted by the unit that provides light (low powered light) to conserve battery power.  As the person walking gets close to the light, it triggers the LED to shine brightly down to mark the path or walkway.

    These are great lights to use to mark walkways and decks, as well as living areas like outdoor porches, gazebos, and more.  They not only provide light to help avoid hazards, but they also provide a nice decorative feature by illuminating a soft, downward glow.

    The LED light shines down, out from the bottom of the unit, to illuminate the area and to avoid glare in the walker’s eyes.  The product is powered by 3x C-sized alkaline batteries.  When set to “low” light setting mode the batteries should last approximately 12 months (assuming 15 triggers per night.)  You may also adjust the run time to “short” or “long,” 30 seconds or 5 minutes, respectively.
