Hey guys, if you have a commercial establishment like an auto shop, a large warehouse, an office or a studio, it’s essential to install a doorbell that can be heard and seen to let you know if somebody is on the premises. Now, today I’m going to be installing the WDK ERA strobe kit that comes with a doorbell with a magnetic contact and a receiver and a strobe light from Safeguard Supply.
So let’s go over all the features and let me show you how to set it up. Okay, here’s everything that comes with the kit. You have a receiver, a transmitter, a power pack, a mounting kit, a magnetic contact, a CR2 lithium battery and a strobe light with an anchor kit. The next thing you want to do is take out these grommets on the back of the transmitter to get to the four Phillips screws.
Take off the back of the transmitter and once it’s off you can place the CR2 lithium battery inside and then put it back together. Now you’re ready to pair the transmitter with the receiver. Plug in the receiver at the bottom, and once it’s plugged in, you’ll see a green light here in the corner. On the side, you’ll see three buttons, a mode button, a zone, and a volume button.
To start the process, press and hold the mode button for two seconds, and you’ll hear a short tone. Once you hear that short tone, it will be in program mode. You’ll be able to see both lights flashing. Now, all you have to do is take the transmitter and press the gray button. You’ll hear a short tone. Now press and hold the mode button until you hear another short tone, and this will indicate that they have been paired.
Now you can try it. Press the button on the transmitter or use the magnetic contact.
You can adjust the volume by pressing the volume button and cycling through the different levels. I’m going to choose level 2. Now it’s time to set up and wire the strobe to the receiver. This is a mounting bracket that you will screw to the wall in these holes. And the wires will go through the center.
And once it’s on the wall you’ll be able to twist the strobe light onto the bracket. Carefully take the back cover off the receiver and you’ll see a row of connections for the wires for each zone. The solid red wire will go to the positive in zone 1 and the striped wire will go to the negative in zone 1.
You also have an option at the top of the receiver to have a strobe light be active for 5 seconds and even up to 2 minutes. Each zone can have its own strobe. So it’s best to test all your connections and signals before mounting it to the wall. So let’s test it.
Okay, it works. Now we’re ready to go and install it. You can use the ERA UTX as a door contact or a doorbell.
So I hope that gives you a better look on how the WDK ERA UTX Stroke kit works and why it’s a must have for your establishment. Check out Safeguard Supply for all their transmitters and receivers. You’ll be glad you did.

Motion door alert systems have become increasingly popular for commercial use, primarily because of the extended range of 4,000 ft. These systems use motion detectors to monitor entry points, sending alerts whenever motion is detected within the monitored zone. In this blog, we will explore the benefits of using motion sensor door alert systems in stores, how they work, and how to choose the right system for your store. Often, store owners, shop managers, or purchasing agents who need a solid door alert system shy away from wireless because the products have burned them with a reduced range. Knowing that the published range is a line-of-sight range, not the actual range you will get in the field, is essential.
Understanding Motion Sensor Door Alert System
Motion sensor door alert systems, such as the motion detector alarm, are designed to detect motion at entry points or unauthorized zones, providing security and convenience for homes, businesses, and commercial properties. These systems use motion detectors, typically passive infrared (PIR) technology, to monitor activity and send alerts when motion is detected within the monitored zone. Motion door alert systems use advanced technology to ensure accurate detection and minimal false alarms, making them a practical and cost-effective security solution for residential and commercial use.
What is a motion sensor door alarm system?
As the name suggests, a motion sensor door alert system is a security system that uses motion alerts to monitor a property’s entry points or specific areas. These systems are equipped with motion detectors that use passive infrared (PIR) technology to detect changes in motion within the monitored zone. When motion is detected, the sensor triggers an alert, notifying the property owner of the activity.
How does a motion sensor work?
The PIR sensor is activated when there is a change in the balance between its two elements. As an object moves through the different zones of the Fresnel lens or segmented mirror, it causes a rapid change in radiation levels across the sensor’s elements. This differential change is what the sensor detects. When the sensor detects a significant change in infrared radiation, such as when the moving object crosses multiple “fingers” or zones, it interprets this as motion and triggers an alarm or activates a connected system, such as a light or a camera. The design of the PIR sensor, with its segmented lens or mirror, is crucial for accurately detecting motion and reducing false alarms. It allows the sensor to detect infrared radiation and respond specifically to the dynamic changes in radiation that occur with movement across its field of view.
PIR sensor Fresnel lens example
In motion door alert systems, the motion sensor acts as a transmitter, sending a radio signal to a wireless receiver when motion is detected. The transmitter, usually installed near entry points or in areas of concern, continuously monitors for motion. When motion is detected, the transmitter sends a wireless signal to the receiver, triggering an alert. This wireless communication allows for easy installation of the motion sensor door alert system, as there is no need for extensive wiring or complicated installation processes. The transmitter and receiver components of the motion sensor door alert system are designed to work seamlessly together, ensuring reliable performance and accurate motion detection. For example, all products work together in the ERA series by Safeguard Supply. Different sensor types work together with all the other receiver types.
When to use a motion sensor instead of a magnetic door contact
While magnetic door contacts (or window contacts) are commonly used for door entry alert systems, there are instances where motion sensors are preferred. Motion sensor door alert systems are ideal for areas where traditional door contacts may not be practical. For example, if a door frequently stays open, a magnetic door contact will not provide alerts because magnetic door sensors work when a small magnet separates from a second piece (such as a door opening). Motion sensors offer a more dynamic and responsive alert system in such cases, detecting motion even if the door remains open. Motion sensor door alert systems are also suitable for monitoring hallways or areas where you want movement notifications, providing a versatile security solution for various entry points and locations.

In today’s fast-paced world, security is a top priority for businesses. That’s where a door alert system comes in. It’s a simple, yet effective tool that plays a crucial role in enhancing the security of your business premises while improving overall customer support.
With the onset of Covid 19, more and more businesses decided to keep their doors locked. The negative aspects of this were that businesses may have missed important deliveries, or worse, missed customers or others visiting the store. The advent of Covid-19 has brought about global changes in the way businesses operate. A notable modification has been the decision by an increasing number of businesses to keep their doors locked. This precautionary step was adopted not only to restrict the flow of people in their establishments but also to adhere to stringent social distancing norms. It was a necessary change aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of both employees and customers during challenging times.
One of the primary downsides of this strategy, however, is the potential to miss out on vital business interactions. The locked doors could result in businesses missing important deliveries essential for their day-to-day operations. If couriers were unable to access the premises, packages could be returned to the sender or left in less secure locations. This could lead to a delay in accessing critical inventory or equipment, potentially stalling business activities, and inevitably resulting in additional costs and inconveniences.
Equally detrimental, if not more, the locking of doors could lead to missed opportunities with customers and other important visitors. Visitors might incorrectly assume that the business is closed for the day or even permanently, leading to a loss of potential sales and future business relations. In a competitive market, missing opportunities to connect with customers and build relationships can erode a company’s customer base and negatively impact its reputation.
To mitigate these negative aspects, businesses should consider adopting a door alarm designed to notify when someone is at the door. This smart technology ensures that none of the important deliveries are missed, and customers or visitors are promptly attended to even when the doors are locked. By striking a balance between safety considerations and business interactions, enterprises can navigate through these pandemic-induced challenges, ensuring their survival and success in the long run.
In this article, we’ll delve into the importance of door alerts for businesses, the various types available, and how they can be a game-changer for your business. Whether you’re running a retail store, an office, or a warehouse, a door alert system can provide the peace of mind you’re looking for.
Importance of Door Alerts for Businesses
As a business owner, ensuring the safety and security of your establishment is a top priority. Door entry chimes can play a crucial role in maintaining this security. They’re more than just simple alarm systems – they’re gatekeepers that offer a feeling of safety.
A properly equipped business door chime can deter potential thieves. When they’re alerted to an intrusion, managers can act fast, minimizing loss. It isn’t just about theft prevention, though. A vigilant door alert system can actually improve customer service. If you’re in the retail industry, for instance, you’ll always know when a customer enters or leaves your store. That means you can ensure they’re greeted properly and receive attention promptly.
Door Entrance Alert systems also make it easy to keep track of people coming in and out of a business, an essential factor in crowded environments like retail stores and public events, where it’s vital to monitor the headcount. In corporate settings, they maintain the integrity of certain restricted areas, permitting only authorized personnel entry.
Different types of door alert systems cater to various needs and environments. There’s a wide range: from simple chime alerts for retail stores to complex systems for warehouses that use motion sensors and video monitoring. There’s a door alert system out there for every industry, and they’re all designed to help secure your business against unwarranted entry and to enhance customer service.
Keep in mind, that a well-chosen door alert system turns out to be less of an expenditure and more of an investment. Enhanced security can win customer trust, and that, in turn, can boost your bottom line.
Types of Door Alert Systems
There’s a wide range of door alert systems in the market. Understanding their unique features can help you choose the perfect fit for your business. These systems are not one-size-fits-all. They’re designed to tackle various security challenges that different businesses might face.
Magnetic Door Contact Entry Alert Door Systems: Provide audible alerts when someone enters your business, by triggering when a door is opened. A small magnet attaches to the door and the door frame, and triggers when the magnet separates. When the door opens, the sensor is triggered and an alert is sent to a remote receiver, which then plays the alerting chime sound.
Other models like the EZCHIME mechanical door alert play a gentle chime sound at the door. They’re perfect for retail stores that want to ensure every customer is greeted promptly.
Both of these examples work best when the door usually stays closed. Customers don’t just walk in unnoticed. If you run a small business and you’re constantly multitasking, an entry alert system can ensure you never miss a visitor.
Motion Detector Door Systems: These systems use motion sensors to detect activity near your entrances, and are typically mounted over a door, or to the side of the door. They emit an invisible field that detects motion within the zone. Some models have a built-in speaker so the sound is emitted at the door, or there are also versions that send a signal to a remote receiver.
They are ideal for doors that can stay open or in hallways or other open area. This makes them ideal for businesses located in crowded areas where it’s essential to distinguish between passersby and customers entering the store.
Wireless Door Alert Systems: For businesses with multiple entries or large premises, the wireless door alarm systems, the Safeguard Supply ERA-UTDCR, or the WDK-ERA-STROBE stand out. These systems are scalable, allowing you to add more sensors and receivers as your business grows.
For example if multiple entrances or exist need monitoring, each of the sensors to can be programmed to one or multiple receivers. Each receiver will chime and play a distinct sound for each sensor. Many systems, such as the ERA series, have features such as strobe lights, speakers, sirens, and more that may be added to the receiver.
Integrated Automatic Wireless Door Chimes Commercial: At the top are the integrated door alert systems. These advanced systems can tie into your security cameras, access control systems, and even customer relations management (CRM) software. They’re a comprehensive solution that offers more than just an alert. They can record data, provide visual confirmations, and even aid in customer service. At secure.1800doorbell.com, we do not provide security cameras and access control systems, however, receivers like the ERA-DCRX have a C-FORM relay, allowing you to integrate the system into other devices.
Before settling for a system, it’s crucial that you evaluate your needs. Look at the size of your business, the volume of traffic, and any specific challenges you might want your system to address.
Benefits of Door Alert Systems for Businesses
Door alert systems serve multiple functions that can greatly benefit any business. While they are primarily known for their security aspect, the benefits of these versatile systems extend far beyond just safety.
Firstly, let’s talk about the customer service benefits. An alert system at the front door ensures that every customer is greeted promptly. This creates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere which leaves a good first impression and can lead to increased customer loyalty.
Next, suppose we consider the security benefits, which are often the primary reason a business owner would invest in a door alert system. These systems act as effective deterrents to would-be burglars, making them rethink before attempting a break-in. Additionally, they also notify staff of any unauthorized entries, ensuring quick response times.
Let’s not forget the operational benefits. These systems also enable businesses to keep count of the number of people entering or exiting. This can be beneficial in managing crowds or gauging store performance.
Thirdly, there are the cost-effectiveness benefits. An alarmed entrance reduces the chances of theft and break-ins significantly. In turn, it cuts down the potential loss a business might incur due to stolen merchandise, damages, or vandalism. Plus, the added security can lower insurance premiums, lending further saving opportunities.
Lastly, an alert system can be indispensable in emergency situations. In case of a fire or any danger, alarm systems can guide customers and staff safely out of the building. This feature becomes particularly useful in high-traffic spots, ensuring smooth evacuation.
So, as you see, door alert systems come with numerous benefits. Now, you might be wondering how to select the best one considering these different benefits. Don’t worry, we’ll walk through various types of door alert systems next, helping you find the right fit for your business.
How to Choose the Right Door Alert System for Your Business
Choosing the right door alert system for your business isn’t just a matter of security. It’s about enhancing customer service, improving operational efficiency, bolstering emergency preparedness, and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
Getting the right system can seem daunting with the myriad options available. But I’ll guide you through the main considerations you should make.
The first step in finding the ideal door alert system hinges on defining your unique needs. Start by evaluating your business environment. Consider the size of the premises, the layout, and the nature of your business.
A larger business may need a sophisticated system with multiple sensors for different entry points.
If your business involves sensitive information or expensive items, you’ll likely need a system with instant alerts to your phone.
If customer service is your top priority, a door alert that notifies staff of customer arrivals might be the most beneficial.
Let’s talk budget. Understand that a good door alert system is an investment. However, you don’t want to find yourself paying more for features that might not necessarily bring value to your business. That doesn’t mean you should go for the cheapest option. It’s about finding that perfect balance between cost and value.
After outlining your needs and budget, it’s time to dive into research. Look at customer reviews, consult experts, and compare different systems. Note that dips in price often correlate to fewer features and poorer performance. High price tags, on the other hand, might indicate extra features that, while nice to have, may not be essential for your business.
Lastly, always consider the future of your business. Scalability is a critical factor when choosing any technology for your business. As your business grows, you’ll want a door alert system that can grow with it.
Selecting the right door alert system might seem like a daunting task initially, but once you’ve got a clear picture of your requirements, you’ll have a much easier time finding a system that not only fits your present needs but also anticipates your future ones.
Tips for Installing and Maintaining a Door Alert System
Once you’ve selected the perfect door alert system for your business, it’s time to explore the installation process. Not all door alert systems are alike, and as such, each comes with its unique set of installing and maintaining guidelines. Here, I’ll give you some general tips to help you navigate this critical process. But remember, it’s always vital to refer to the installation guide that comes with your specific system for the best results.
The first tip revolves around choosing the optimal location for your door alert sensors. Where you choose to install your equipment dramatically affects the efficiency of your alert system. Position sensors at the primary entry points in your business – your front door, back door, and loading docks are typical locations. Ensure that the sensors aren’t obstructed by items that might set them off erroneously.
Following installation, undertake periodic maintenance checks. Frequent system checks are an essential part of keeping your door alert system operational and efficient. Test your system periodically to ensure everything is working as it should. Replace batteries as needed, check for any damages, and make sure sensors are still correctly positioned and not obstructed.
Consider a tie-in to your overall security system. To get the most out of your door alert system, it can be beneficial to tie it into your overall security system. For example, door alerts can be configured to trigger security cameras, allowing for timestamped footage when entries and exits occur.
Keep in mind that depending on the complexity of your chosen system, you might need to enlist the services of a professional installer. While more straightforward systems can be a DIY task, not everyone is comfortable handling wires or drilling holes. Be honest with yourself about your limits and know when to call in a pro.
Remember, these are general guidelines. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific door alert system model. With regular maintenance and proper installation, your door alert system will serve your business effectively for years to come.
Conclusion
So there you have it. A well-placed, regularly maintained door alert system is a smart move for any business. It’s not just about security but also about efficiency and peace of mind. You can even go the extra mile and hire a professional installer for those more intricate systems. Just remember, no matter the complexity of your setup, always stick to the manufacturer’s guidelines. This way, you’ll ensure that your business continues to run smoothly, with your door alert system working as your silent, ever-vigilant partner.

Are you tired of constantly checking the warehouse entrance to see if anyone is there? Do you miss deliveries? Do you want to keep your warehouse doors locked but are afraid you will miss important visitors? Do you wish there was a more efficient way to be alerted when someone arrives? Look no further than the WDK-ERA-STROBE warehouse door alarm by Safeguard Supply !
The WDK-ERA-STROBE warehouse door alarm is the perfect solution for warehouse operators who need to control access to a door (someone is at the door). This device uses a combination of door sensor that may be used as a magnetic door alert or a push button, receiver, and strobe light. When the sensor is triggered, a radio signal is sent to the receiver, which plays a chime sound and the attached LED Strobe Light flashes. The kit ships with the ERA-UTX transmitter/sensor, the ERA-DCRX receiver, a strobe (choose the color), and a bundle of 20-gauge bell wires to connect the strobe to the receiver.
How the WDK-ERA-STROBE Works
The WDK-ERA-STROBE has a transmitter that will work as a push button or a magnetic door contact. When a guest pushes the button or the door opens (depending on how you set it up), it sends a wireless signal up to 4,000 ft. away to the receiver. When triggered, the receiver will play the selected melody, and the add-on strobe light will start flashing its lights to alert you. The receiver may sit flat on a desk or mounted on the wall. Its high-quality strobe light is bright enough to be seen in bright daylight. This means that no matter what time of day, you can see when someone is at the door. If you need to be alerted for open doors or hallways, we would recommend a similar kit, the ERA-PRDCR-STROBE that uses a PIR motion sensor that triggers when motion is detected.
The ERA-DCRX Receiver
The WDK-ERA-STROBE receiver, the ERA-DCRX , features a built-in speaker with approximately 100 dBA at the highest sound level. The sound level may be adjusted to four levels, with a fourth press of the volume control button muting the unit.
The receiver is powered by an included plugin adaptor with a 5-foot cord. Each ERA-DCRX features 4 x 12V DC outputs, and when the receiver is triggered, it outputs 12V of DC power to the zone. The strobe light wires into one of the four zones on the receiver, and when a programmed transmitter to a zone is triggered, the connected strobe light will flash for the set duration (5 seconds, 10 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes).
Up to 12 sensors/transmitters may be programmed to each receiver, and there is no limit to the number of receivers that can be programmed to a sensor/transmitter. Placing additional strobes throughout your facility can ensure users can hear the receiver when triggered. A transmitter’s line of sight range to the receiver is up to 4,000 ft. This extra wireless range is needed, especially in commercial locations with more concrete, rebar, and other environmental factors that may interfere with a wireless signal.
The ERA-UTX Transmitter
The ERA-UTX may be used as a standard wireless doorbell push button or a magnetic contact (triggers when the door is opened). You can attach it on the outside near the door to use as a push button, or use it as a magnetic door contact to trigger when the door is opened. You can even mount it on a garage door to alert you when the garage door is accessed.
Using it as a contact or push button will help with false alarms that can be triggered by PIR sensors.
It is powered by an included, long-lasting lithium battery, and the transmitter may be located up to 4,000 ft. (line of sight) from the receiver. The ERA-UTX features an LED that flashes when the button successfully transmits to the receiver. It is mounted using double-sided tape or the included mounting bracket and screws.
The sensor is rugged and enclosed in heavy-duty ABS plastic that protects it from water and extreme temperatures. Silicon grommets prevent moisture from damaging the unit and a small RED illuminates when the sensor is transmitting a signal to the alarm receiver.
12V DC Flashing Strobe Light
This kit also includes a 12V DC strobe light (you choose the color). This strobe light is wired into the zone output (the same one the push button will be programmed to), and when triggered, will flash for a specified duration.

So What Are Entrance Alerts Anyway?
Entrance alerts may be known by a variety of names like entry alarms, entry chimes, and even exit alerts. Loosely speaking, an entrance alarm is anything that alerts you when someone, or something, enters or exits through a monitored zone. A quick example of one that’s been around for hundreds of years is the shop keepers bell that hangs over a shop’s entrance door. When someone opens the door, a gentle bell sound is generated.
You could think that a entry doorbell might be an entry alarm, but a doorbell works when a visitor pushes the push button, while an entry alarm happens without the user having to push anything.
Common Uses of Entry Alarms & How to Choose the Right Entrance Alert Chime
Customer Service Benefits
Most convenience stores, for example, have some sort of product that alerts the clerk when someone enters their store. A good alert allows them to work in the store and not have to sit and watch the door. When someone enters, they can stop what they are doing and serve the customers.
We have a large number of convenience store owners who have an entrance alert chime on the front of their store with a speaker in the beer cooler. This allows them to stock and organize the cooler and still receive a notification when someone comes in.
We also have several large retailers who use our products in a mall. Since there’s no real door, many of these shops use passive infrared beams that span the entire entrance. When a new customer enters the store, a gentle chime sound signals the clerks of the new entry.
At our company, we need to be notified when a delivery truck approaches the backloading door. Before installing a notification system, drivers would pull up, beat on the back door, then immediately leave when no one came to the loading dock door. Now, we use an ERA-PRDCR by Safeguard Supply to let us know when a delivery truck approaches.
Security Reason to Use Alerts
The examples above tend to gravitate toward using these products for customer service. Most would agree, that there’s a reason more important than customer service—security. With the rise of workplace violence and terrorism, ensuring you and your employees are safe is of utmost importance.
The other day, I took my truck to a service station for an oil change. It was around lunchtime and there was a clerk at the front desk and two mechanics in the shop servicing cars. The thing that struck me was the fact there were four bay doors open and no one watching them. A simple passive infrared sensor over each of the bay doors would alert the mechanics when someone was entering the work area.
You might also have areas you don’t want unauthorized visitors entering. A simple store entrance alert chime would send an instant alert to store clerks if a customer walks into unauthorized areas.
Safety Applications of Entrance Chimes
Most states require some sort of alarming device for doors that lead out to a pool. Although requirements may be different in your state, many of the products on 1800doorbell fit these requirements.
An easy-to-install door/window contact sensor will alert parents or babysitters when a child opens an exterior door that leads to a pool or spa. You can also install these same sensors (depending on the model) on fence gates to alert you when a child opens a gate door. Some of the products have gentle chime sounds while others have blaring alarm sounds that are ear piercing. Additionally, it is possible to easily change the sound of an entrance alert. Whichever you choose, anything you can use to increase your child’s safety is recommended.
As our parents and other loved ones age, diseases like dementia and Alzheimer’s become real issues we need to deal with. Do-it-yourself alerting products are cost-effective ways for us to know where our loved ones are. Whether it’s a nursing station or a chime receiver in our home, receiving a notification that a door or window has opened may be the difference between life and death.
Types of Entry Alarm Sensors
There are two basic types of sensors to think about:
Contact-based sensors
Motion-based sensors
Contact-based sensors work when a door or window is opened. These sensors usually consist of two pieces; a magnetic part and a metallic part. One piece is usually mounted on the door frame while the other piece is mounted on the door itself. When the door (or window) is opened and the two pieces separate, the sensor is activated. Depending on the specific model, this will trigger an alarm on the sensor itself or the sensor will transmit a wireless signal to a receiver.
These types of sensors work best on doors or windows that normally stay closed. If you have a hallway, open space, or door that typically stays open, we recommend a motion sensor.
Less prone to false alarms – only trigger when door or window is opened.
A smaller profile allows you to specify the monitored area.
Sensors are also transmitting a signal and a metal door or window frame may interfere.
Doesn’t work on doors or windows that typically stay open.
Motion-based sensors work when movement or a combination of heat and movement is detected. When a combination of these variations occurs, the sensor is triggered. Some models, like the ERA-PIR-SPK, will sound an alarm or chime sound at the sensor itself, while models like the ERA-UTDCR by Safeguard Supply will transmit a signal to a receiver.
Can be used on doors and windows that normally stay open.
Can be used for hallways and large, open areas.
Reliable in commercial applications and at long distances.
Occasional false alarms.
Entry Alert Kits or Stand Alone Models
Virtually all of the products we sell in this category are true do-it-yourself products. This means you do not have to hire a licensed contractor to install the products for you. Don’t let this ease of installation or low cost mislead you. These products are highly effective and do the job. We mentioned above that the sensor will trigger based on the contact separation or detected movement, but how is the alarm sounded? Some models are stand-alone units, meaning the alarm/speaker is co-located with the sensor itself. When movement is detected, the sensor itself will generate and emit a chime or alarm sound.
A great example of this is the ERA-PIR-SPK. This particular product uses the same PIR sensor as the ERA-PRDCR. Unlike the ERA-PRDCR, the actual chime sound emits from the actual sensor at the door. Most users would mount this small, lightweight sensor over a doorway and when movement is detected, it emits a ding-dong chime sound. The ERA-PRDCR uses a very similar type of sensor, however, unlike the ERA-PIR-SPK, sound is not generated from this unit. It does, however, send a wireless signal to a plug-in receiver, up to 4,000 ft. away. This allows users to be a distance away from the monitored zone and also receive a notification when triggered.
Most kits that feature a sensor/transmitter and a receiver are expandable, meaning you may add more transmitters/sensors and receivers. Some feature plug-in receivers while others have battery-operated receivers, but the concept is the same.
Users also need to consider distance. How far will users be from the actual sensors? If they will be at the sensor, or maybe up to a hundred feet away, a self-contained sensor/alarm may be perfect. However, if users are going to roam around a warehouse, or if an office isn’t very close to the monitored zone, a user may need to think about kits with a separate transmitter and receiver.
Some kits have a range of up to 150 ft., while others like the ERA-UTDCR have a range of up to 4,000 ft. The maximum range of these systems isn’t just about the total foot distance of range—other environmental factors will also play a role.
Most commercial buildings have concrete, steel, and other building materials residential buildings may not have. These factors will play a role in the transmission distance, so even if the range from the front door to your office is only 100 ft., (well within the range of the SS130, for example), the metal in the walls would cut down on the actual transmitted range. Therefore, we would recommend something with a range like the ERA-PRDCR, with a range of 4,000 ft.
Top Three Entry Alarms:
EZ CHIME: As one of the few worldwide distributors of this product, 1800Doorbell is proud to offer it to our customers. For smaller areas (1,000-1,500 sq.ft.), the EZCHIME has been a customer favorite for decades. It is purely mechanical, requires no batteries, and is installed directly on the door frame. This is a contact-based alert that emits a gentle tone. When a visitor enters the store or office, the small plunger strikes a metal plate inside the box and generates a tone. It’s not very loud, but it’s perfect for many retail locations. It retails for $26.98.
ERA-PRDCR: This is a long-range wireless entrance alert. As seen in the image above, this kit ships with one PIR-based sensor that transmits a wireless signal up to 1,000 ft. to the plug-in receiver. Users may expand this product by adding sensors and receivers based on their needs. This is our best-selling product and is recommended for most commercial applications due to its reliability and transmission range. The retail cost for this product is $119.98.
ERA-UTDCR: This is a contact-based, wireless entry alarm. With a range of up to 5,000+ ft., this product works great in warehouses and larger commercial applications. The sensor in this kit is a universal transmitter that may be used as a door/window contact or as a wireless push button. Similar to the DA50L-A, users may expand this product by adding more receivers and transmitters. This product retails for $89.98
Entrance Alerts, Exit Alarms, and Driveway Alert Receiver Sounds
On this page, you will find a collection of sounds and/or melodies played by the different driveway alarms, entry alerts, and exit devices we carry on secure.1800doorbell.com. We are continuing to build this list so if you want to hear a particular sound and it isn’t here, please check back as we are adding more sounds all the time.
If you have visited a similar page on our website, Door Chime Receiver Sounds, you might have noticed that many of the sounds found on that page are also on this page. That’s because the same receiver (where the sound comes out) might be the same receiver in a door chime kit and an entrance alert kit. For example, the LRA-D1000 is a wireless door chime kit, while the LRA-C1000 is an entrance alert kit. Both kits feature the same receiver, the LRA-DCRX.
What are Driveway Alarms, Entrance Alerts, and Exit Alarms anyway?
Before we get into the different sounds the receivers play, it’s important to understand what an entrance alert, driveway alarm, and exit alarm are. Let me start by saying that in most cases the same product or kit may be used as an entry alert or exit alarm, it just depends on how you want to use them. Entrance (entry) Alert (Alarm): These types of devices alert you when someone enters or passes through a monitor zone. For example, you have a showroom and want to receive an instant alert when someone enters the showroom. You might be busy in the office, but as soon as the door opens, an alert is triggered, alerting you that someone has opened the front door.
Another example may be the sensor on the front door of your gas station/convenience store. You could be stocking the cooler and need to know when a new customer enters the store. There are a variety of different sensors to choose from and the decision comes down to what the entrance is like that you would like to monitor.
Driveway Alarms: The idea is similar to that of an entrance alert, but in this case, you want to be alerted when a car enters your driveway or passes through a monitored zone. For driveway alarms, the sensor/transmitter needs to be outdoor rated and is typically mounted at or near the driveway or other outdoor entrances. When a car passes through a monitored zone, the sensor triggers and transmits a wireless signal to the receiver, thus alerting you that an automobile has entered your driveway.
Exit Alarms: The opposite of entrance alerts, whereas you want an alert when someone exits an area. A good example of this might be an emergency exit lock on a door. If that door is opened, you want to know because it was either a) an unauthorized exit, or b) an emergency. It is easy to imagine how the same products can serve dual roles. The same entrance alert may tell you when someone enters your store, but also alert you when someone leaves.
LRA Series of Long Range Entrance Alerts and Driveway Alarm
There are currently two different receiver features in the LRA series of products. The LRA-DCRX is a battery-operated (plugin is available) desktop or wall-hanging receiver. The LRA-VPRX is a portable receiver. Each of these receivers has four different zones, allowing you to pair a transmitter (push button, motion sensor, etc.) to each zone and each zone will have a unique sound associated with that zone. Below are three kits in the LRA series of products, along with the receivers that play these sounds. The fact that all the products in the LRA series are compatible with one another means you can have multiple receivers, as well as multiple transmitters/sensors.
Typically, these products use a narrowly focused infrared beam that goes between two sensor-type devices; one of which produces and one that receives. When the beam is interrupted, the chime or sound goes off alerting you to customers. The technology is pretty simple when you think about it and this handy product is a great solution for any business. Beam Entrance Alerts typically use either PIR (Passive Infrared) or break beam (reflector shoots beam back, triggered when broken) to detect motion or movement through a monitored zone.
They are in essence, an integral part of your customer service team. They can serve multiple purposes, although they are most often used as part of a much larger security-type system. With an invisible beam, it is no longer necessary to hover around the front door, waiting for the next customer.
These versatile products can also be used at home to keep people from entering your home if need be. They are a great addition to any home security system and they are especially useful for people who simply cannot hear a knock at the door. Typically the chimes are adjustable, so they can be raised or lowered to the perfect pitch.
It seems that in the end, the invisible beam is not really a thing of the future, but a handy application that can be used right here and right now, for a myriad of purposes. Entrance alerts are great products and may be used to greatly enhance your current security or customer service programs. Here are some popular options:
