Description
For more significant properties, the DCMA-4000 Dakota Driveway Alarm is a great long-range driveway monitor. It’s a complete driveway monitoring system that’s reliable, high-powered, and budget-friendly based on its performance range. Like most wireless kits, it works when the transmitter/sensor detects movement and sends a wireless signal to the plug-in receiver.
The driveway sensor/transmitter emits an invisible laser beam, creating a detection zone of up to 50′. When the combination of heat and movement enters this detection created by the driveway monitoring zone, your chime/receiver will sound, alerting you that movement has been detected.
This product is similar to the ERA-DSDCR driveway alarm kit by Safeguard Supply. The ERA-DSDCR features 4 x 12V DC outputs and a C-Form relay to add sirens, strobes, and other accessories, whereas this driveway monitoring system, the DMCA-4000 by Dakota Alert, does not.
Reasons to Choose the DCMA-4000 Driveway Monitor:

- A range of 5,000 feet (transmitter to receiver) is ideal for large properties or areas where environmental factors interfere with shorter-range alarm systems.
- Small transmitter blends seamlessly into the environment to avoid detection.
- Expandable product – add more receivers, transmitters, or other helpful accessories
This Dakota driveway alarm, the DCMA-4000, ships with two components, the DCMT-4000 and the DCR-4000, which are a sensor/transmitter and a receiver/speaker, respectively. If you have more than one drive way, or area, you would like to monitor; you can expand the system with additional driveway monitoring alert transmitters. You can also add more receivers to the system.
The Dakota driveway sensor is a small, compact device powered by a 9-volt battery. To monitor your driveway – or any area – mount the outdoor driveway motion sensor perpendicular to the area you want to monitor. The transmitter has a detection zone of roughly 50 feet, and when it detects movement, it transmits a wireless signal to the plugin receiver/speaker.
For example, if you want to monitor the driveway, simply mount the sensor next to the driveway with the beam shooting across it. At our offices, we use the transmitter to notify us when a delivery truck approaches the loading door.
- The sensor detection zone emitted from the sensor is approximately 50 feet. The beam comes out small and tends to fan out the further you move from the sensor.
- The sensor will transmit a wireless signal up to one mile (depending on environmental factors). This is the distance from the transmitter to the receiver.
- The wireless sensor is powered by a 9-volt battery. In normal conditions, the battery life is approximately 1-1/2 years.
- The receiver plugs into a standard wall outlet.
- Operates with all Dakota 4000 products.
- The receiver has a volume control.
*Please note the video below demonstrates the DCMA-2500 by Dakota Alert, which has been discontinued. The upgraded model is the DCMA-400 which increases the driveway monitor alarm distance by up to 5,000 ft. from the driveway sensor to the driveway chime receiver.

I live in a military town and am deployed a lot. When I am gone, this product sends a warning to my wife when someone enters the driveway. Awesome b/c we both feel better.

I ordered the DCMA-2500 Long Range Wireless Driveway Alarm system and recevied it within days and as advertised. The transmitter was easy to install and all works great.

This product exceeded my expectations. It was as advertised.

We installed the Driveway alarm on our driveway and it does exactly as described. We chose the chime setting which chimes twice when someone enters the driveway. Very handy for us as we have a long driveway and not good site view from inside the house.

We have 2 driveways and purchased 2 transmitters , 1 for each driveway. They work very nice with different chimes for each one. this is our 2nd set , the first one lasted about 8 years and was not dependable any more. these are much better and work great.

Will this work indoors as a door entry alert?

This has been a great set up for us knowing we can add more security if we need to.

Works great

I have the one sensor located a bit close to the driveway and at times it doesn’t trip. More so when vehicles are leaving it seems to be working when they pull in. Sensor is hiding great where it is not really wanting to call attention to it by moving further from the driveway.

Our requirement is for a night time security device, (8pm – 6am). We have employees that start arriving after 6am and to have the alarm going off because of employees is unacceptable. We can’t use the monitor!
Duane White –
Great service. Alarm that doesn’t give false alarms.
Ashleigh Sandrock –
We live up a hill surrounded by many trees. I am so impressed that this sits at the end of our long drive and still reaches into our home! GREAT PRODUCT!
Kenneth Williamson –
Very easy to install and has better Alarm than the old one. Very pleased and would highly recommend it.
Curt Conklin –
Bought this Dakota alarm to replace a 20+ year old Dakota alarm. Really like the choice of sounds and the long range of the detector. Do wish it had a simple on/off switch on the receiver. Definitely recommend Dakota alarms.

I recently purchased the ERA-VPRX transceiver w/ sensor. My driveway is â1000â Long & densely wooded so I figured the 4000â foot range setup would be sufficient. But, itâs not. In fact it only transmits about half way down the driveway. I am wondering will the Dcmt-4000 Driveway Alarm Sensor work with my ERA-VPRX transceiver, if so, will I gain any range do this?
Linda Mitchell –
will the DCMA-4000 work with a metal roof home?
Linda Mitchell –
Do you have to have special equipment to install it outside on a gate? If so what do you need to install it. Thank you.

Hello,
There are a couple of different ways you can mount the transmitter/sensor you can see here: https://secure.1800doorbell.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/DCMT-4000-User-Manual.pdf
Dee Stubblefield –
Will this really reach 1 mile ? I bought something similar and got it home and only reached around 1000â

If you have a lot of wildlife crossing your property will it pick them up? I feel like the deer would be constantly setting it off.
Katrina Maurer –
I have an older model. Recently alarm was sounding constantly. Now no alarm is sounding, but led light comes on. What should I check ?

Can you shield it from falling leaves
1800Doorbell –
Good morning. Falling leaves will not activate the DCMA-4000’s outdoor sensor. The sensor is a PIR transmitter that is only activated by heat and motion combined. Thank you,

Is this transmitter affected by trees? It will need to transmit through the forest for approx. 1500 feet

We’ve had infrared alarms for over a decade, and these are the best yet. We learned to listen for the timing between sensors in order to verify a vehicle is coming , and where it is on our driveway. Now, with different sounds from each sensor being programmable, we know exactly where it is, and if it is just a deer or fox.
Rick Cutts –
Is it water proof and how long does it usually last with battery using a good battery

Works great! Also love that the sensor is 9 V battery powered…no wiring needed!
We have two driveways that are 75′ apart. We can never hear cars pulling in. Placed the sensor on the outside of one drive, so that it is facing across both drives. Set the distance jumper in the sensor to the “100 ft” setting and it triggers the alarm, which is about 150 ft away inside the house, from either drive. Perfect! Am ordering more receivers so as to also have one in the work shop and one on the back pool deck.
