Description
Trouble hearing the existing wired door chime in areas throughout your home?
This is a common problem with wired doorbells, in that they are typically not loud enough to hear in every part of the house. We have a solution!
The LRA-EX1000 is a wired door chime extender KIT that transmits a wireless signal to chime receivers you can locate throughout your home. When your existing push button outside is pressed, your door chime will ring as usual, and this product will simultaneously trigger the receiver to play a chime, flash an LED strobe light, or chime/strobe together. Add multiple receivers throughout your home, and extend your doorbell chime to the basement, garage, or bedroom.
Here’s an example. You have an existing wired door chime hanging in your foyer. You can hear it well in the family room, but it isn’t loud enough to hear upstairs in your bedroom or down in the basement. With this product, you can place a receiver in your bedroom and one in the basement. Not only does your existing wired chime play its chime sound when a visitor pushes the outside button, but the chime receivers in your basement and bedroom will now also play the melody you select.
Do I need to Hire an Electrician to Install?
No. The connection of the extender transmitter to your existing wired doorbell is easy and straightforward. Most wired doorbells have an outer chime cabinet, and when this cover is removed, you will notice the mechanical “guts” of your existing wired doorbell. You will then notice the “terminal strip” with three screws (a typical wired doorbell setup). One of the screws is labeled “Front” (for the front doorbell button), another screw is labeled “Trans” (for the transformer), and the last is labeled “Back” (for the back doorbell button). Each wire on the extender will wire into one of the screws. The extender transmitter will then lay inside or on top of your doorbell.
We recommend you read the LRA-EX1000 instruction manual before purchasing the product. View the manual by clicking here.
Here’s how it works!
The kit consists of two different products, the LRA-EXTX-L wireless door chime extender and the LRA-DCRX wireless door chime receiver. The LRA-EXTX-L is a small, battery-operated transmitter that wires into your existing door chime (follow included instructions). When your door chime is triggered (by pushing the front doorbell button), this device will generate a wireless signal and send it to the LRA-DCRX-L receiver.

not what I was looking for, need to return item
John Simpson –
product works ! ! YOUR HELP INSTALLING WAS SUPERB !
Timothy ORourke –
Upon receiving the doorbell extender I wired it into my existing doorbell and nothing worked. It paired with the chimes but would not recognize the actual doorbell. I called the company which gave me a few suggestions but nothing worked. I then had them send me a wireless door bell which goes with the extenders and at that point everything worked perfectly. I sent the wired extender back and kept the wireless doorbell. I think the wired doorbell extender need a little more work. When I purchased this item I was hoping to find the chimes were loud so I would hear the bell from anywhere in my home. I was very pleasantly surprised how loud they were, exactly what I was looking for.
Josephine Kearney –
Great Customer Service, helped with questions & what I needed. Received doorbell kit plus 1 extension. Install was easy. Took a while to pair receiver, worked once very loud, went to adjust volume & piece broke, very delicate. Other recover seems ok, but cautious about adjusting volume if need to move to other area.
Called company and again excellent CS.
Would improve to volume dial on product instead. This was the LRA-DCRX
Michael ILOFF –
To enhance an existing weak chime into a home system with two remote chimes, I’d need your wired transmitter (LRA-EXTX?) and two of your plug-in (not battery-operated) receivers (LRA-DCRX?) that answer at different floors but listen to the same single transmitter the same time. What would I have to order?
I’ve read the LRA-EXTX User Manual. How will I avoid any active/passive conflicts with my neighborhood?
Richard Reardon –
Hope the bell alert improves existing doorbell sound so we can hear it in more places in our home.
Ken Goldman –
Great product, so far! Easy install. Now, I can hear doorbell/ deliveries, even from workshop on other side of our garage.
Chris Mellor –
Excellent volume!
Lancing Barnes –
This product worked better than expected. Set up was easy and I can now hear my door bell throughout my home. I would not hesitate in recommending.
Thomas Ward –
Works as promised right out of the box. Had trouble getting our chosen melody, but “bong-bong” works fine. The strobe is a welcome feature.
This is the first effective ADH doorbell we have ever had. We will buy a second receiver unit as soon as we get your free shipping code.
SJC –
Works as Expected…no issues. Easy to install and setup.
Tahoe Dave –
We too often missed deliveries as our door chime is at the front of the house and we are usually in the back or upstairs. A louder door chime did not do it. Bought a plug in extender on Amazon. Limited range and too soft notification tone did not solve the problem.
In desperation we Googled extenders and found this one. The range is far more than the other one, and it is really LOUD. Can be adjusted downwards which we did. A light that goes on as well as a notification sound makes this a winner. You can choose among several sounds including barking dog!. This unit is exactly what we needed.
charles spencer –
Instructions could stand an upgrade but the customer service person quickly solved the installation issue and the unit now works perfectly
Michael Schofield –
Wow! Now when on patio and quest come and ring front door bell we know to answer the door before never knew anyone was at door.
Laurence Wong –
Good email support.
Glenn Thomas –
Installation was pretty easy. Everything worked well. I would give it 5 stars, except the ring chime selection was poor. Most choices were gimmicky sounds like police cars or firetrucks. Only one sounded close to a normal door bell ring.
Steven Bailey –
My application was to extend a existing electronic chime unit that was hardwired to a house transformer and standard doorbell switch. After first pairing the unit and testing it, attached the transmitter as instructed to the unit and BAMM, the received lite up and sounded great wherever I took it in my 3000 square ft house, outside in the garage and detached building too.
Great range, flawless set-up and works better than expected.
Paul W. –
We could not hear our doorbell after needing to switch from digital to analog. This has corrected our issue and now the bell can be heard throughout the house.
Bonnie Krauss –
How do I order this product???????
Hollis –
Can I turn the chime off? I am looking for a doorbell extender with no audio, just the light.
1800Doorbell –
Good morning. The LRA receiver has a switch that can control the chime sound and strobe light. This switch can be set to have only the strobe light flash, only the chime sound or to do both.
Thomas Umbaugh –
Very pleased with my LRA-EX1000 Long Range Doorbell Extender. I could not hear my doorbell in the back or in the basement. Having fun with the variety of ring tones. Considering an additional receiver. Highly recommend!
Matthew Hymowitz –
I needed to here the front door bell from inside my workshop, in a seal room off the garage. Standard doorbell extenders could not get signal that distancecand throgh walls. This one worked without issue and tech support was outstanding.
John LeFevre –
Works great! Product was in stock and at a fair price.
Shannon DeVaney –
Does the original doorbell also ring as well as the extender ?
Do they both ring ?
1800Doorbell –
Good morning. Yes, the door chime and the extender will ring. The extender transmitter wires to your existing chime and sends a wireless signal to the receiver up to 1000 feet away. When your door bell button is pressed, the wired chime will ring and the LRA receiver will ring in the location it is placed.
James Klingensmith –
The person who assisted via phone to select the correct product for my needs was excellent. She understood the technical aspects of our need and navigated us to a very good solution. much appreciated!
Claire Lee –
Took awhile to figure out how to work but finally got it. Haven’t had a chance to experience it yet. The instructions were a little unclear.
Doug Blandford –
Can this be mounted outside on a patio?
1800Doorbell –
Good morning. The LRA-EX1000 receiver is not recommended for outdoor usage, any type of moisture or humidity could have an effect on the chime’s performance. Thank you,
Customer Support Team
Jeffrey Aldrich –
I had been looking for a doorbell extender for a long time. I searched high and low and lucked out in finding this one. Great product, installed in minutes, and many choices of chimes. It’s GREAT!
Butch Martin –
Can the transmitter be wired to the doorbell transformer rather than to the existing chime? I’d rather have the transmitter out of sight.
Butch Martin –
The doorbell extender works great. It has many choices of tones, volume control, and an optional light signal. Installation wasn’t too bad, but would have been easier to understand if all the instructions were on one document rather than 3 or 4.
Charles Bosshart –
I have no trouble hearing or seeing this door bell. installed the extender unit on the main wired door bell that we could not hear in the main room of the home and installed a 2nd wireless button on the back patio door. Very loud if you want it to be, bright light and portable we can move it to the patio and hear when someone rings the front door bell. Love it!!!
Chet Lazzarino –
Needed some help with tech support.
The help was fantastic.
James L. Pertsch, M.D. –
Our home’s front door bell was located just inside the front door and couldn’t be heard in the kitchen especially during (pre-Covid) gatherings. This device solved the problem. Batteries put in the receiver helped accomplish the slight programming necessary. Mounted the receiver under the kitchen sink for plug in power next to the garbage disposal. Adjustable volume was very helpful.
This worked so well bought two more for the office. Equally successful in allowing all to easily hear doorbell throughout office. Programming was easy once I realized to choose a different zone on the receiver for front and back doorbell.
John Davies –
It was easy to install. The wired doorbell had some wiring irregularities but I was easily able to get the doorbell extender working.
I do question how easy it will be to replace batteries when the time comes. The extender transmitter has to be opened from the back, but the back is taped to the doorbell box. And the added on doorbell button has to be twisted off but the retainer clip is also connected to the part attached to the wall.
So a 5 star review today but dropped to 4 star anticipating difficulties in a few years.
David A. Paul –
I had to contact 1800Doorbell three times for clarification about connecting the doorbell extender. Once I received a return call due to volume of calls–not much of a wait-the second time I had a connection with C.S. right away, and the third was a call back from an after-hours request and was called early the following day. And each time the CSR was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating. I received a solid technical explanation, parts or exchanges as appropriate, and a quick response to all issues. The Extender Kit is easy to install, looks and works good, The only problem is I liked the first one I got so much I wanted and ordered a second receiver, and got the latest -1 model, which worked great paired to its -1 transmitter. But the -1 cannot be paired with a non -1 model, and I also discovered the transmitters cannot be connected in parallel. Interference, I guess. Connected in parallel, one or the other (-1 or older version) will “win out” the transmission to their respective receiver. But in contact with 1800Doorbell, they resolved it with an exchange, no problem. I couldn’t be happier with either them or the product.
Lynn Murphy –
What is the range of the chime extender? In other words, what is the maximum distance a receiver (or two or three) can be placed from the extender and still work?
James D Minnich –
The product works very well. When out on my pool deck I know when someone pushes my doorbell.
John VanderPloeg –
Item came in on time and worked perfect with easy instructions.
AMY SREDNICKI –
I recently purchased a doorbell extender for a client of mine. I’d nearly forgotten about the extender when I happened to be doing tax paper clean up and ran across an invoice from a job i did quite awhile ago. With COVID, many of my clients have moved indoors and aren’t always able to hear their existing doorbells. These items are perfect, easy to install and work fantastically. The prices are fair and shipping is oh-so-speedy! I’l be ordering plenty more and you should, too!
Dennis –
Mine stopped working after a year or two. Called the company and they sent me a new one immediately with no charge. Can’t beat that. Only complaint is it’s impossible to get back into the little transmitter box once you close the cover.
Raymond Demski –
THIS DEVICE WORKS JUST AS ADVERTISED, CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS EVEN BETTER
steven Benda –
Completely satisfied with the product. Does the job better than I expected. Easy to install. Cannot say enough good things about the doorbell.
J.J. –
This product works well to provide adequate range, sound volume, and noticeability to the rung-doorbell alert function of a currently-marketed electromechanical doorbell chime unit that by itself produces inadequate sound volume to be heard in many areas of my house.
Zygmunt Paclawski –
If I want to hear the doorbell from multiple locations or rooms (2nd floor & basement area) in the house of I need additional equipment to hear the door bell?
Martha JARDINE –
Love the option of changing doorbell tunes.
Allan Oliver –
I can hear the doorbell. the 1800 receiver creates a tune that meets my hearing needs. The assistance for product selection was great. The tunes with the flashing light are more effective at night. This unit is worth the investment.
Linda Weadock –
I needed to be able to hear my doorbell in the back part of the house. Thanks to the extender I can now hear it anywhere.
Keith Wagner –
They shipped it quickly. It works just as advertised. The only drawback was the quality of the instructions, which were very poor.
Toni Kimball (verified owner) –
Ordered this product because it advertised it worked with our original 1930 doorbell. It does, and it’s wonderful. We can now move the chime anywhere in the house and can hear and see when the doorbell is in use.
I highly recommend this item.
Thank you, 1800Doorbell
Stephan G. (verified owner) –
Great product but wiring front dr to back color code was backwards so if you are only setting up one door and it doesn’t work just try the other wire
