Description

Remember the days when you pulled into a gas station or through the dry-cleaners drive-thru over the rubber hose to hear the ding sound?  The DCRH-4000 by Dakota Alert is a Rubber Hose Driveway Alarm-1 Mile Range product activated when a car drives over the rubber hose included in the kit.  Although the technology of rolling over a rubber hose has been around for a long time, it continues to be a very reliable form of driveway alarm.  A heavy object rolling over the rubber hose triggering the sensor eliminates false alarms by things like animals, falling leaves, etc.

Couple that reliability with the power of a 5000 ft. wireless range, and you have a beautiful marriage.    The Dakota Alert DCRH-4000 is a pneumatic (rubber hose) sensor-based driveway alert system that will transmit a wireless signal up to 5000 ft. (line of sight).  The kit comes with 25 feet (3/8” diameter) of rubber hose connected to a transmitter box.  The transmitter is powered by a 1 x 9V (not included) battery. When triggered (car rolling over hose), the transmitter sends a wireless radio signal up to 1 mile away to the included chime receiver.

How the DCRH-4000 Rubber Hose Driveway Alarm Kit Works

When triggered, the receiver will play the selected melody (16 to choose from).  You can purchase additional receivers (DCR-4000) to distribute the sound throughout the area where you want to hear the sound.  The receiver features a volume selector button and may locate up to 1 mile from the rubber-hose transmitter.

Drive Over Hose DCRH-4000 Kit by Dakota Alert Features:

  • Kit includes 1 x DCHT-4000 rubber hose transmitter (9V battery included), 1 x DCR-4000 receiver, and a user guide.
  • The transmitter includes a 25′ rubber hose (installed over the hard surface).
  • The sensor/transmitter is outdoor rated and operates at -30F to 120F.
  • The wireless range (from transmitter to receiver) is up to 5,000 ft.
  • The transmitter’s power source is a 9V alkaline battery (included).
  • The receiver plugs into a standard wall outlet.
  • Operates at 433.92 MHz.
  • Manufactured by Dakota Alert
  • 1-year manufacturer’s warranty.
  • The receiver plugs into a standard wall outlet.
  • The receiver will play one of 12 melodies.
  • Expandable by adding more receivers and more receivers, up to 16.

The DCRH-400o is a rubber hose-activated driveway alarm kit triggered when a car or truck rolls over the included rubber hose.  This pressure change in the hose activates the sensor, then transmits a radio signal up to 5,000 feet to the included receiver.

The kit includes 25 feet of rubber hose that you would stretch across a driveway or other paved surface. Connected to the rubber hose is a transmitter powered by a 9V alkaline battery (included). The rubber hose and transmitter are outdoor and weatherproof rated. When an automobile rolls over, the air pressure in the hose triggers the transmitter. It instantly transmits the radio signal to the receiver, playing a selected melody or chime sound.

Want More Hose?

At secure.1800doorbell.com, we sell the pneumatic rubber hose, the same size used in the DCHT-4000 transmitter sensor. As stated above, the kit comes with 25′ feet of hose, but you can extend the hose length by purchasing an additional 3/8” pneumatic driveway hose. To extend the hose, you need a 3/8” to 3/8” barb splicer to join the two hose pieces together.

Up to 16 different sensors/transmitters are compatible with each receiver, such as the DCMT-4000 PIR driveway sensor, the DCPA-4000 probe sensor that detects cars only, and the UT-4000 universal transmitter. When assigned to the DCR-4000, each transmitter will play a selected melody enabling you to distinguish between a triggered sensor.

In addition to adding transmitters/sensors, you can add an unlimited number of receivers to this kit, such as the included DCR-4000, the PR-4000 portable receiver, and the RE-4k-PLUS receiver with 12V outputs and a C-form relay. Note: the kit includes the DCR-4000 receiver. A similar kit on this website, the DCRH-4K PLUS, has the same transmitter but features the RE-4K-PLUS.

  1. Stephen Pasquan

I would like to have a warning led light to alert vehicles that a vehicle is leaving the driveway.
I am thinking of an air hose on the driveway, attached to a car battery that will power the light.
The light will turn off after the driveway is vacant.
    Please advise.

I have a gravel driveway. Will it damage the hose

  7. Wanda rechel Landis

I’ve had a driveway alarm for many years. It’s always served as kind of a security system the way my house is built you cannot see who’s at the door until you open the door. So with the driveway alarm I have a chance to look out to see who it is before I answer the door. I had had a different kind of driveway alarm that ran off of vibration got lots of false signals. I really like this one so far because when it goes off someone is definitely in the driveway so easy to put together and get into service. Was shipped quickly happy so far

  8. Jeff Milligan

Will this unit work well on a gravel driveway

  9. Elizabeth Coffey

Hi, if I wanted to add a light to this system, so that someone arriving would know that I know they’ve arrived, would that be possible?
    Thanks, Elizabeth

  10. Rhonda Jones

Wanted two sensors but could not find it on the website even though it did say you could order extra ones

Will this hold up for commercial use with loaded tractor trailers crossing it on a daily basis?

  12. Elaine Jankins

After several years the driveway Rubber Hose (DCHT-2500) has many cuts in it. How do I get a new hose?

  13. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. Please contact Dakota Alert at 605-356-2772 between the hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm CST for any information on the replacement hose. Thank you,

  14. Kris Bellamy

Love the rubber hose driveway alarm. We have a long, wooded driveway, and it works perfectly!

  15. John Less

Does the hose have to be used on blacktop or cement. I am afraid my gravel driveway will ruin it. I have tried all kinds of alarms. This is the best choice but I can’t afford to blacktop yet.

  16. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. The DCRH-4000 can not be used on a gravel driveway, it can only be used on asphalt or concrete surfaces. Thank you,

  20. Patrice Meany

I have the DCHT-2500 and the hose has torn (2 or 3years old). Can I purchase a new hose? The 25 foot was more than enough length, I would not want any longer.

  21. Patrice Meany

How is the DCRH-4000 differ from (my) older DCR-2500 ?

  22. 1800Doorbell

The “-2500” series by Dakota is discontinued and has been replaced by the 4000 series and ARE NOT compatible. For all intents and purposes, the product functions the same way, but the range has increased from 2500 ft. to 5000 ft.

  23. SandraM. Davis

Can this hose be secured to the ground? Also, is there a weight limit on the hose – such as, an excavator or tractor driving over it?

  24. Patrick Branin

We purchased one of these units and it is working fairly well. One problem I am having is the hose wants to continuously move around after several tire passes. In other words it is tough to keep the hose in place anchored. How do you suggest we keep the hose anchored down tight on an asphalt surface we tried drilling into asphalt with clamps over it- did not work well. In addition the hose does not stretch all the way across our driveway there is about 4 feet of open space at the edge of the driveway. The continuous movement causes the hose to get more friction on pavement and tear small holes.

  25. Lloyd Carder

Excellent product, works great and easy to install.

  26. Dexter Simms

I was immediately impressed with the ease of set-up and efficiency. Gives my home an extra level of comfort and safety. Excellent sound and I love the different numbers of sound to choose from!

  27. Customer

Do you think if it was covered with dirt to hide it, it would still go off!?

  28. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. The manufacturer of the DCRH-4000 does not recommend covering the hose transmitter with any type of material. This transmitter can only be used on asphalt or concrete driveways. Thank you,

Will a person on a bicycle trigger this alarm?

  31. Megan Furnish

I have had great luck with the rubber hose driveway alarm. I have a long driveway with lots of trees between the hose and the sensor in the house and I’ve never had problems. It also got here way sooner then planned. Thank you!

  32. Craig Williams

Will the system work properly if the tube is cut to approximately 12 feet in length?

  36. Patrick Wheeless

We have 2 driveway openings. Can I run 2 sensors through the same alarm?

  37. Caroline Crumlick

We bought a new home, set back from the road. We wanted a way to know when cars pulled in. The line across tge driveway makes a nice doorbell sound, at just the right volume. So far, after only a few days of use, we love it!

  38. Beth Lee (verified owner)

    Works like a charm

  39. Harry McCaully

The drive way alarm works super. I had a motion sensor type but I would get false alarms in the middle of the night when deer tripped the sensor. The hose across the drive does a great job . Going to get another one for my sons drive way.

  40. Sandra O’Brien

Do you need to purchase a separate item for this to work?

  41. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. Yes, you would need a receiver and the compatible part would be the DCR-4000. The kit with the DCHT-4000 transmitter and DCR-4000 receiver would be the DCRH-4000 for $169.99. Thank you,
    Customer Support Team

Is it possible to have 50 foot of hose?

  58. Amy Wulf (verified owner)

We purchased the DCRH-4000 Dakota Alert Rubber Hose Driveway Alarm-1 Mile Range. Couldn’t be more pleased with the product. Easy to set up and really works well. We have a long driveway and never heard when someone pulled into it until now. Works like a charm. Don’t know why we went to long without this system.

  59. Sal Angelo (verified owner)

I had a driveway alarm operated by a laser. Every leaf, animal, wind set it off. Swapped it for a 1800 model . It’s great

  60. Penny

Can the wireless signal from transmitter go thru metal/steel building to receive notification?

  61. 1800Doorbell

Metal and other materials, such as brick walls, concrete, etc., will reduce the transmission distance. In most cases, this product’s 5,000 ft. line of sight range does not have a problem. It depends on the interference and the overall distance. For example, if you have a lot of metal, and the sensor/transmitter is 4,000 ft. from the receiver, you might have problems. There are so many variables, and it’s one of those things you have to try. Use our 30-day guarantee and send it back if it does not meet the range.

  62. Customer

I am aware this rubber hose type alarm is meant for paved roads. But that’s not often feasible for us with long driveways, or in rural locations, etc. Will it work alright on hard packed dirt, or packed gravel? Or I could lay some paver type stones on the driveway under the area where the hose would lay. Thank you in advance for feedback…

  63. Vicki King (verified owner)

With a very long concrete driveway, 200ft or more, and hoping other failed alert options would work we finally said; let’s us the system businesses use for customer alerts. Bought this 1800 Doorbell and amazing! Easy install, durable, and dependable! We could not be happier! System alerts us to visitors, deliveries, and others! Other products were motion related so you can understand the multiple wildlife related false alarms/alerts.
So happy with this product!!! 5 stars

  64. 1800Doorbell

I would not use it without a paved road underneath. A gravel or dirt road may not provide enough pressure to trip the pneumatic hose.

You may want to consider the https://secure.1800doorbell.com/dcpa-4k-plus-probe-driveway-alarm-kit.htm as it will only detect metallic objects as they pass over the driveway.

  65. Christine Berry (verified owner)

This is my third one. Over the past 10 years or so I have purchased three complete sets and one extra hose. The hose will wear out over time but this last time a wire came lose in the box, I don’t know how. We tried to go without the alarm but were always being surprised by someone and we missed it.

  66. Sandi Burrows (verified owner)

Exactly what I needed and works perfectly

  67. Liz (verified owner)

We have almost a quarter of a mile long driveway. We have used motion sensor alerts for the past few years. They have proved to be very unreliable. Bugs, birds, leaves, wind, etc., would cause the sensor to send an alert to the receiver. OR, we wouldn’t get an alert if someone was coming up the driveway. We were concerned about this hose on the gravel driveway, but so far it seems to be doing ok. We have only had if for a week, but have had enough traffic to tell this is going to be so much better than the motion alerts we had….It’s very “old school”, but works so much better for us. We bought a second receiver for the shop, so we can be alerted when we are out there. We are already feeling more secure knowing the only time the alarm goes off is when a vehicle has just crossed it.. Thanks for this wonderful system and making it very affordable as well!!!
