Description

I Need a Driveway Alert System with a Hidden Driveway Car Sensor

Introducing the DCPA-4K-PLUS Dakota Alert Driveway Alarm – a cutting-edge security solution that utilizes advanced magnetic sensor technology to detect vehicles entering or leaving your driveway. Unlike traditional motion sensors, this system relies on a buried magnetic probe that creates a detection zone parallel to your driveway. When a car or truck passes through this zone, the transmitter sends a wireless signal up to 5,000 feet to the receiver, triggering an alert.

How the Magnetic Probe Sensor Works

The heart of the DCPA-4K-PLUS is its magnetometer probe, designed to detect metallic objects within a 12-13 feet range. This probe is buried under the driveway or parallel to your driveway, creating an invisible detection zone that spans the width of your driveway. When a vehicle passes through this zone, the probe senses the change in the magnetic field, triggering the transmitter to send a wireless signal to the receiver.

The transmitter is powered by three long-lasting CR123A lithium batteries (included), ensuring reliable operation in extreme temperatures ranging from -30°F to 120°F. It transmits a signal to the included receiver, which can be placed anywhere in your home or office up to a line-of-sight distance of 5,000 feet. The number of receivers you can add to your system is unlimited.

Customizable Alerts on the RE-4K PLUS Receiver

The receiver is a versatile unit that can work with up to 16 different transmitters or sensors, each with its unique melody. This feature allows you to assign different sounds for each driveway or approach to your property, enabling you to identify which transmitter was triggered easily. The receiver plugs into a standard wall outlet and can be placed on a flat surface or mounted on the wall.

Integrate the Dakota Alert Receiver with Existing Systems

The DCPA-4K-PLUS receiver is designed to seamlessly integrate with existing security systems, guard gates, or other automation devices. It features a C-Form relay and a 12V DC output, allowing you to connect additional devices such as strobe lights, sirens, or fire alarm bells.

Easy Installation and Maintenance of the DCPA-4K-PLUS

Thanks to its straightforward design and included accessories, installing the DCPA-4K-PLUS is a breeze. The magnetic probe can be buried under or parallel to the driveway, from 3”-12” deep. It is connected to the transmitter via 50 feet of burial cable, allowing you to conceal the transmitter and mount it discreetly on a nearby post or tree. Additional cable lengths are available for purchase if needed.

  4. Ronald Nissen

  6. GREGG LISTER

I HAVE 2 DAKOTA DRIVEWAY ALERTS AND ONE HAS STOPPED COMMUNICATING WITH THE BASE RECEOVER. NEW BATTERIES HAVE NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. BOTH OF THE SENSOR/TRANSMITTERS ARE ABOUT THE SAME DISTANCE FROM THE RECEIVERS. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

  7. Luke Azbill

Alarm Transmitter and Receivers arrived in good condition. Set-up instructions could use some work to make them clearer to use but will get the job done after a while.

  8. Rick Clunn

How do i get transmitter to connect to receiver over a small hill and then down hill to house?

  9. 1800Doorbell

The line of site distance for this product is up to 5,000 ft. This is line of site, without any interference. The hill could interfere, but it is very hard to say for certain. I would recommend you give it a try and if does not supply the range you need, return it within 30-days under our satisfaction guarantee.

  10. Bob Robinson

Went online to order a driveway alert unit for a friend. I already owned a Dakota system. System arrived quickly and works fine. Very pleased with system and service

  11. Albert S

My driveway is 3000 ft long through a forest. I put the sensor about two thousand feet from the house. I have two receivers one at the house and one at the shop. It triggers reliably every time. I have used their wired products for many years and have never had a problem. The range is incredible if I had line of sight I’m sure it would go a mile but to go a couple thousand feet through heavily wooded is amazing.

  12. E.C.

Finally, a driveway alarm that actually works! Has been very reliable. I like the flexibility to expand the system. Great customer service!

  13. Customer

I have at least 4 transmitter units that have quit. Does Dakota ever troubleshoot and refurbish these units? Is there a trouble shooting guide that can help you determine a failure analysis and fix. When these work, they work well, but they are pretty delicate apparently. These things are starting to pile up and I am trying to decide what to do with them in lieu of just throwing them away. Given their cost, surely they are not considered disposable items?! Thanks in advance.

  14. Matthew Hanks

What is the difference between the 4000 and the 4k plus?

  15. Jason Gatlin

I installed this driveway alarm a few days ago and I must say that the installation went much easier than I had planned. The pairing of the transmitter to receiver was simple and seamless. High quality product, no more false alarms from animals, etc. I feel this is the best driveway alarm I have ever used and the range between transmitter and receiver is amazing.

  16. Cindy hauser

DCPT-4000. Have sensitivity as low as can be and it still goes off every few seconds. Not close to highway traffic.

Really satisfied with. It works as it should but only one thing wrong it could use a longer cord from probe to the box about 100 foot cord. So you can hide the box.

  20. Anthony Sessoms

Received my order in a timely manner, instructions and setup very easy and works as advertised. So far, so good very pleased with this product. Thanks

  21. Customer

Does Dakota make a driveway sensor with a phone app so I can receive the alert on my phone.

  22. 1800Doorbell

Good afternoon. Unfortunately, Dakota Alert does not have an option to connect to a smart phone at this time. They are working on this option for the future but we do not have a concrete date of when it would be available. Thank you,

WHAT ABOUT LINE OF SIGHT REQUIREMENTS

  32. Richard Tokos

is it line of sight for the 5000 feet how much will hills, trees and stucco on house affect the distance

  33. 1800Doorbell

This is line of sight. Obstacles such as trees, hills, etc., will diminish the signal but we’ve found that outdoor factors have a limited effect, vs, concrete, steel, etc.

  34. John Fitzgerald

    Are lithium batteries rechargeable?

  35. 1800Doorbell

No, these are not rechargeable. However, the estimated life is about 1-1.5 years and they are easy to find on Amazon or though us.

  36. Brian Gatz (verified owner)

How long do the batteries last?

  37. Diane Allen

Is there a way to turn the alarm off between a certain time. My husband leaves for work at 4am when everyone is asleep. Can we shut the notifications off for every day between 11pm-6am?

  39. Dallas Brushey (verified owner)

Perfect for long driveways with lots of wildlife. Metal detector avoids false alarms bur alerts you to unexpected visiters and deliveries.

  40. Brion Showalter

Can you select the time of day it sounds to notify

  41. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. You can not set the outdoor sensor to alert at a specific time but the chime receiver can be powered off or the volume can be turned all the way down. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you,

Can you set up multiple chime receivers on the same sensor so it can go off in multiple areas inside or outside of the home?

  45. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. Yes, the DCPA-4K-PLUS is compatible with multiple outdoor sensors and an unlimited amount of chime receivers. The compatible receivers would be the DCR-4000 or the RE-4K-PLUS. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you,

  46. Kathleen Romeo

    Can anyone discuss the batteries.
How long the batteries approx. will last?
Are there re-chargeable batteries that can be used?
How many batteries and how much are the batteries?
Does the probe system let you know when the power is getting low?

  47. 1800Doorbell

The sensor operates on three CR-123 batteries (included), which typically last a year or more before they need to be changed.

If the RE-4k Plus receiver plays your transmitter’s tune twice and the LED blinks slowly for ten minutes after the transmitter is activated, your sensor’s battery is low. Replace the battery.

  48. White Deborah Deborah

Can I program this to my phone?

  49. 1800Doorbell

Good afternoon. At the moment this product does not support sending SMS or text messaged to your phone, but that system is in the works.

  50. Tim Goffrier

I have one of your units. I believe it is a Dakota 4000. I’ve had it about 7 years. About a year ago we added another sensor. It worked fine for about 9 months. Now they will work some days and not others. I would think it was the batteries but when they don’t work neither of them work. Could it be the receiving unit inside the house.
    Thanks for your help

  51. Kristen Rasmussen

We purchased the magnetic alarm in June and we love the alarm – However, in September, it started to malfunction. Would go off without anything going over it. Upon inspection, the wiring had been chewed by critters. We were able to splice the wiring, and then we put all the wiring in continuous PVC pipes. We expect that the fix will be the answer! I suggest that if your wiring is exposed to the elements, including wildlife, you take the extra time to encapsulate it in PVC pipe!

  52. David Long (verified owner)

I purchased and installed one of these magnetic driveway sensors at my grandparents house last year and it’s worked great for some time but lately it’s been going off without a car entering. I changed the batteries in the outside box but it didn’t change anything. Thought?

  53. pmk

Can the sensor be attached to a metal gate or metal post and still be effective and reliable?

  54. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. The manufacturer, Dakota Alert, recommends burying the probe but we have had customers install it onto a gate in the past. Metal is one of the biggest blockers of a wireless signal so it will have some impact on the signal strength, it would depend on how far the chime receiver would be from the outdoor sensor and if there are any other materials that would come in between. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you,

Any discounts for 80 year old vet?

  56. EDWARD STONE

I purchase the DCPA-4K-PLUS Dakota Alert Driveway Alarm about a year and half ago. I just replace the batteries last mouth. Every since the alert works for week or so then stops
It appears the battery contacts get rusty and the alert will not work until the contacts are cleaned. The last time I cleaned I added an electric compound thinking it may help.
I really like the product so you help in some way?

  57. Nancy (verified owner)

Just received this and have been working on setting it up. It is just as described. We just have to find a spot that our steel fence post, electric fencer and other metal objects will stop interfering. I’m sure we will love it once we work out our particular issues.

  58. Elizabeth Vincent (verified owner)

My driveway goes up a hill. Does that mean that I would need to install the transmitter up high for line of sight?

  59. Marc L Imhoff

Can I get a second receiver for the magnetometer driveway alarm? I need to hear the alarm from more than one place.

  60. 1800Doorbell

Good morning. The DCPA-4K-PLUS is compatible with an unlimited amount of additional receivers and the model number for that receiver would be the RE-4K-PLUS. Thank you,

This is the third Dakota Alert driveway alert that I have used ofer the last 30+ years. The replacements were required thanks to Thunderstorms.

I am very happy with the performance

  66. Kristin McClendon

We have had this for 3 years now and we are extremely happy with it. We live in a heavily treed area and the detector and receiver are about 500 feet apart. Plus a 100 foot elevation difference. We have had temps ranging from -20 to 100 degrees. We are still on the original battery. We have had maybe 6 false alerts in 3 years–couple during a lightning storm and the others I suspect may have been wildlife stepping on the spot where the detector is buried. Overall, highly recommend!
