Description
Can’t find the doorbell color or stain to match your design ideas? If that’s the case, look no further than the CH2401-UO/EBY wired doorbell by Craftmade.
The unfinished, natural wood cabinet on the CH2401-UO doorbell means you can stain, paint, or wallpaper it to meet your specific design taste. The oak cabinet has a hand-hewn look with three horizontal grooves across the cover’s width. Once painted or stained, this will look like a doorbell or door chime that costs much more than you paid.
Great for designers, craftsmen, or people who want to create and market their doorbell design. Don’t let the unfinished cover make you think this doorbell isn’t finished on the inside. Like its Craftmade counterparts, this is a fully functional wired doorbell.
The doorbell plays two notes for the front door and one note for the back door. Powered by a 16V wired doorbell transformer, this doorbell is waiting for your home.
- Unfinished, natural Oak wood allows you to paint or stain this doorbell precisely how you want it with the UO version; ebony if the EBY version.
- Height: 8.5″ Width: 5.25″ Depth: 2.375″
- 1-year manufacturer’s warranty
- Manufactured by Craftmade
- 2-note for the front door, 1-note for the back door
- It may be hung horizontally or vertically
Craftmade Wired Doorbell Installed on Wall

Great product highly recommend
Customer –
Does this kit come with the transformer built in? Does it require three wires to connect the front bell and the back bell. I have three wires from my old door bell.
1800Doorbell –
Good morning. This chime does not have a transformer built in and operates off of a 16 volt transformer. We would recommend the T1610 by Craftmade. This chime plays two notes for the front door and one note for the back door.
S catherine Conway –
Beautifully made, quick shipping.
Douglas Shaker –
Can this be mounted horizontally?
1800Doorbell –
Good morning. The CH2401 chime can be mounted either horizontally or vertically.
Ellen Kranick –
Doorbell works great. Chime is audible throughout.our home. We painted the box to match the wall; the simple design is perfect. Would recommend!
LouAnne Campbell –
I was looking for a door chime that wasn’t plastic and didn’t look like I bought it at a big box store. The Craftmade chime fit the bill. It’s well made and it blends with my beach-themed interior. I opted to leave it unfinished rather than stain or paint it, and it looks great. Shipping was quick and the product was well packaged to prevent damage in transit.
Del –
What is the weight and does the cover require mounting separate from the chime? Thank you
Phil Dennie –
If I have an existing wired mechanical door chime (front door only), is the install as simple are connecting the existing wires to this new unit? Or do I need to rewire everything back to the circuit breaker?
Cyndi –
I chose this doorbell to go in my Florida coastal-style home. I liked that it was wood and could be painted or stained to go with my decor – much better than the cheap-looking plastic ones I could have gotten at a big-box store. While it is a little bigger than I would have liked, it will blend well when painted. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.
Mary Peters –
We needed a new doorbell as we are remodeling. The one we chose from 1800 Doorbell was great! We bought the unfinished oak and painted it to match the walls….perfect!
Nicole Hammond (verified owner) –
Does this chime box come with a door push button?
1800Doorbell –
Ms.Hammond,
Good morning. The CH2401 is the chime only, a push button would need to be purchased separately. Thank you,

Is the transformer included h
Karen Sichieri –
My chime only rings two notes some time. Most of the time it just rings one note. It is wired correctly to the recommended transformer.. We tried wiring it both ways and itâs the same. What could be wrong?
Dulcie Butt –
Hello. Is this unit made of red or white oak?
Kristen Calarco –
Can this be installed hardwired into an existing home or do you have to use this transformer that the description talks about
Leslie Horn –
I have an old dark wood crappy door bell cover over 2 chimes in my hallway if I buy this light unfinished wood one is that just the cover cause thatâs all I need?
Stacy Taylor –
Will this doorbell work with the Ring doorbell?
1800Doorbell –
This should work fine with your existing wired doorbell transformer assuming the existing on is working and is a 16V transformer.
Sandra Clark –
This product was exactly what we were looking for and the delivery of the item was done in a timely manner. I have never ordered from this company before but they are now on my go to list. The price was fair and was even better than a local company had as a list price for the item. I will certainly shop 1800 Doorbell in the future.
Susan Nedelco –
Does the unfinished cover have the three horizontal grooves across the width of the cover?
Thank you,
Susan Nedelco
1800Doorbell –
The grooves run the width and/or height of the cover. You can hang this horizontally or vertically, so that’s why I said both “width” and “height.”
Alice Champlin –
Hi -our doorbell chime works fine. We just need a new cover for it. I was wondering if this cover in the light finish if itâs paintable? Also, can we just use the cover? We donât need the chime portion of it. Thank you!
1800Doorbell –
Yes, it is paintable. You can simply use the cover. The only stipulation is that your current wired doorbell mechanism fits inside this cover. If it does not, you’ll have the new one to install.
Steven Ford –
Howdy….can this chime be mounted either vertically or horizontally?
Thanks so much,
Steve
1800Doorbell –
Yes, it may be mounted horizontally or vertically.
Geoff Caflisch –
I was looking for a replacement chime with cover that looked nicer than my original chime with plastic cover. The CH2401 Craftmade Wood Chime was the same chime base with an unfinished wood cover. I sanded the cover and applied 3 coats ofwater based semigloss clear polyurethane. The chime installed and works like the original. The finished wood cover looks very nice on the wall and goes nicely with the hardwood floors. The wood species is listed as oak, but, doesnt really look like oak.
James McDonald –
Very nice looking chime box, made of wood. We painted ours to match the mantel in the living room next door. Chime is a pleasant old-fashioned “ding-dong”. Nothing too fancy. Just solid construciton, good materials and easy to install. The price is right as well.
PATTIE STALTER –
Received our new door chime within a few days of ordering. We found a problem with it when we opened everything. I wrote to 1800 Doorbell and got a prompt response back. Jason was kind enough to send out a replacement right away. Great service!!
Marilyn Degan –
Am I able to use a 16v plug in transformer for this chime?
1800Doorbell –
Hi Marilyn,
According to the manufacturer (Craftmade), this model requires a 16V transformer for operation but does not specify standard or plugin transformer. We’ve haven’t had any negative feedback from customer’s using a plugin 16V transformer with this chime. Thank you.
Theodore Rose –
This doorbell is replacing one that was 20+ years old and and the back door chime no longer worked. This was a perfect replacement and being able to match the finish of my existing wood work made it even better.
LEE PROPP –
Looks great
Daniel Teibel –
Easy install. Simple design. Looks and sounds good.

Henry –
Is this product made in the USA? If not please let me know where it is manufactured. I really want to ensure it is not made in China. Thank you.
Melanie Burke –
I like that it is unfinished so that you can color match.
Frank Racina –
Is this a mechanical doorbell?
Jennifer Marshall –
Do you have to wire both bells (back and front door?
1800Doorbell –
The CH2401 is a two note (ding,ding/dong), wired chime but you do not have to connect a front and back door. The chime would work with only a front door connection. Thank you,

Real chime tubes inside? –
Are there actual chime tubes inside? Our current chime has 2 tubes about 1.25 in in diameter with small strike rods that create the sound. I’m looking to replicate that. Thanks!
1800Doorbell –
Good afternoon. The CH2401-UO is a mechanical, two note chime, it has plungers that will strike a mechanism to create the sound. The mechanism in this chime does not have tubes but is more of a flat bar. Please see the 2nd thumbnail picture in the link provided below for an example of the chime mechanism. Thank you,

Christine Beitl –
Does this doorbell require a transformer too or is that included/ part of the doorbell?
1800Doorbell –
Good morning. The CH2401 does require a 16 volt transformer and that transformer is not included. The recommended transformer would be the T1610. Thank you,

I installed a new transformer and tested it without the doorbell, no problems. After installing the new doorbell using the correct wire posts from the transformer I smelled an electrical scent and saw smoke coming from my new doorbell. I immediately cut the power off via my fuse box. The doorbell electrical parts were hot. I assume there was a short within the doorbell. As a safety precaution I removed the transformer and doorbell and put it in the trash. But I did manage do install the doorbell wood cover over the hole in my wall, an illusion of a doorbell. What is the cause of a problem like this?
Brenda VanderLinden –
Unfinished wood stained up beautifully. Looks and works great!
Russ Cox –
Is this doorbell compatible with Arlo ringers?
Amy Lee –
I love my doorbell I received I have not installed it yet but have stained it and getting it ready
