What is the distance between the centers of the mounting screw holes?

This replaced a cheap plastic button – no comparison in quality. This looks so nice and seems very well constructed.

Is the button plastic, and if so, is it possible to buy an extra (in case it cracked or was hit)? Any reason it wouldn’t work to use a sharpie on the button so it’s not so “white plastic” looking on such a nice metal unit?
